The Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA), at their third session in Glasgow, adopted Decision 3/CMA.3 containing the rules, modalities and procedures for the mechanism established by Article 6, paragraph 4, of the Paris Agreement (“the mechanism”). By this decision, the CMA designated a Supervisory Body to supervise the mechanism under its authority and guidance. The Supervisory Body is fully accountable to the CMA.
The Supervisory Body is composed of 12 members from Parties to the Paris Agreement, ensuring broad and equitable geographical representation and striving to ensure gender-balanced representation, as follows:
(a) Two members from each of the five United Nations regional groups;
(b) One member from the least developed countries;
(c) One member from small island developing States.
Members and alternate members serve in their individual expert capacity.
The term of service of the incoming members/alternate members starts as of the first meeting of the Supervisory Body in 2022.
The Article 6.4 Supervisory Body elected Ms. Kristin Qui of Trinidad and Tobago and Mr. Piotr Dombrowicki of Poland to serve as Chair and Vice-Chair respectively until the first meeting of the Body in 2023.
