Advancing strategic collaboration on finance in the Eastern Caribbean

Latin America and the Caribbean Climate Week 2022 marks a key step on the road to COP27 in Egypt in November. Last year, regional collaboration emerged as a driver of global progress. The Glasgow Climate Pact agreed at COP26 recognizes these Regional Climate Weeks as a platform for governments and stakeholders to strengthen credible and durable response to climate change. LACCW 2022 was held from 18-22 July in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The Week engaged and empowered stakeholders to drive climate action across countries, communities and economies. Working together opens opportunity to advance climate action, address social inequalities and invest in development that is good for humanity and nature. LACCW 2022 opened a collaboration platform to explore: Resilience against climate risks The transition to a low-emission economy Partnerships to solve pressing challenges  LACCW 2022 was hosted by the Government of the Dominican Republic. The event was organized by UN Climate Change in collaboration with global partners UN Development Programme, UN Environment Programme and the World Bank Group. Partners in the region include the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UNECLAC), the CAF–Development Bank of Latin America, and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). Thank you to all who contributed to success at LACCW 2022.

Over three webinars, the Caribbean AGYLE engaged more than 40 young people from across the region on crucial climate change topics. These informed how young people can help shape a resilient, low-emission future for the Caribbean and contribute to global climate action.

On 25 May 2022, an informative webinar was held to share details on the NDC Synthesis Report and LT-LEDS Synthesis Report that will be prepared in 2022 with Parties in Latin America and the Caribbean.

After 2 years, the ETF/CGE support unit organized the first in-person hands-on training workshop on transitioning to the ETF and tracking progress in implementing and achieving NDCs for the Caribbean region

Decisions in key areas and adoption of rules for Article 6 of the Paris Agreement at COP26 in Glasgow sparked a growing interest in many countries which currently have no international emission cooperation mechanisms in place. The capacity building on carbon pricing is an integral part of the implementation of such mechanisms under Article 6.
