The Regional Climate Weeks wrapped up with Africa Climate Week 2022, held from 28 August to 2 September in Libreville, Gabon. Latin America and the Caribbean Climate Week 2022 ran from 18 to 22 July in Santo Domingo. The year kicked off with the first-ever Middle East and North Africa Climate Week from 28 to 31 March in Dubai.
The Regional Climate Weeks 2022 build on momentum from last year – LACCW 2021 in May, APCW 2021 in July and ACW 2021 in September. These virtual events brought together more than 12,000 participants for discussions on advancing climate action.
2021 was a year of strong regional collaboration. The year concluded with a Global High-Level COP26 Communique Event in Glasgow to recognize the contribution of all stakeholders. The event brought together the COP President, host government ministers, and heads of global organizing partners – UN Climate Change, UN Development Programme, UN Environment Programme and the World Bank. At the event, the organizing partners presented a RCW 2021 COP26 Communique, a Global Overview and three Output Reports to the UK COP26 Presidency as a resource for implementation.
The Climate Weeks were part of a historic year for global climate action at COP26. 2021 was a year we would either lose sight of the Paris targets, or start implementing the Paris Agreement. Building momentum towards COP26 opened opportunity to increase global climate ambition in COVID-19 recovery and kick-start a decade of action.
The Regional Climate Weeks 2021 built momentum towards success at COP26. The Virtual Thematic Sessions took the pulse of climate action in each region, explored climate challenges and opportunities, and showcased ambitious solutions. The Climate Weeks emerged as a platform for regional stakeholders to have their voice heard and contribute to COP26.

In 2021, the Regional Climate Weeks focused on three themes:
- National actions and economy-wide approaches – Discussion on ambitious action in key sectors and how these actions can integrate in national planning and economic packages to enable COVID-19 recovery and support the Paris Agreement.
- Integrated approaches for climate-resilient development – Collaboration to discuss the climate risks facing Latin America and the Caribbean, develop low-carbon solutions and seek partnerships for risk-based approaches to adaptation and resilience building.
- Seizing transformation opportunities – A platform to explore breakthrough solutions to deliver climate action at a scale that puts the world on a low-emission and highly resilient development pathway, with focus on sectors of the economy that need fast transition and deep transformation.
