2 September 2022 | Africa Climate Week 2022 Builds Important Regional Momentum for Climate Action ahead of COP27
This year’s Africa Climate Week (ACW 2022) in Libreville, Gabon, wrapped up in September, having helped build important regional momentum in the fight against climate change ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference COP27 in Egypt in November.
The event brought together more than 2,300 participants from governments, multilateral organizations, the private sector and civil society in person, with many more joining the over 200 individual sessions virtually.
The meeting explored two key themes that are critical for Africa and indeed the world – striving for a global average temperature rise of 1.5 degrees Celsius and attaining a resilient future.
The opening session featured a ministerial dialogue on the challenges of mobilizing and accessing climate finance at scale to spur the implementation of countries’ Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and priority national climate plans and strategies. Explore ACW 2022 on the web.
23 August 2022 | RCCs Usher in a New Era of Implementation
UN Climate Change today launched the RCC Annual Report 2021 Momentum Towards Implementation. This third edition of the RCC Annual Report shows how six Regional Collaboration Centres built momentum towards success at last year’s UN Climate Change Conference COP26 in Glasgow.
The RCCs are UN Climate Change Regional Collaboration Centres that operate as partnerships in key regions around the world. The RCCs support climate action by governments through capacity-building, technical assistance and connecting a wide network of stakeholders.
In 2021, the RCCs supported 75 virtual events, including three all-virtual Regional Climate Weeks that brought together more than 12,000 participants to collaborate on climate action in key regions. This includes 31 capacity-building events that advance action under the CDM.
Last year, regional collaboration was recognized in the Glasgow Climate Pact for its potential to strengthen a credible and durable response to climate change. Explore the RCC Annual Report 2021.
22 July 2022 | Dominican Republic: LACCW 2022 Builds Crucial Regional Momentum for Climate Action ahead of COP27
This year’s Latin America and Caribbean Climate Week (LACCW 2022) in Santo Domingo wrapped up in July, having helped build crucial regional momentum in the fight against climate change ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference COP27 in November. The event brought together more than 1,700 participants, from governments, multilateral organizations, the private sector and civil society, for more than 160 sessions, ranging from climate finance to building resilience to climate change.
In Santo Domingo, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) presented its roadmap to accelerate inclusive and sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean. Globally, each year USD 5 trillion in investments are needed by 2030 for clean energy alone. According to the IDB, the decarbonization of economies In Latin America and the Caribbean could save more than USD 600 billion per year by 2050.
At the end of LACCW 2022, Deputy Minister for Climate Change and International Affairs of the Dominican Republic Milagros de Camps handed a letter with key regional conclusions of the meeting to Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, who was representing the COP27 Presidency at the meeting. 31 March 2022 | United Arab Emirates: MENACW 2022 Galvanizes Regional Momentum for COP27
The first-ever Middle East and North Africa Climate Week, MENACW 2022, wrapped up in March, building on the outcomes of the UN Climate Change Conference COP26 in Glasgow at the end of last year and providing important momentum for a successful COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, at the end of this year.
Around 4000 participants joined more than 200 sessions at MENA Climate Week, with around 500 speakers from 147 countries. Conversations included participants from the host Government of the UAE, governments at all levels, private sector leaders, academic experts and engaged stakeholders.

27 July 2021 | RCC Annual Report 2020 Shows Regional Collaboration Fosters Climate Ambition
The UN Climate Change secretariat today launched its RCC Annual Report 2020 Making a Difference: Enabling Action and Ambition for the Paris Agreement. The report shows how regional collaboration in 2020 helped address climate change internationally and helped build momentum towards the UN Climate Change Conference COP26 in Glasgow in November of this year.
RCCs are Regional Collaboration Centres that support national climate action through capacity-building, technical assistance and strategic networking, sourcing know-how and resources to drive clean development. The RCCs are currently leveraging this work to strengthen Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs – national climate action plans) by building capacity and confidence at the regional level.
The report covers the key 2020 achievements of all six RCCs and the activities that these Centres support worldwide, with focus on the outcomes that support the Paris Agreement, the Kyoto Protocol and the Convention. Read more about the RCC Annual Report 2020 here>>
9 July 2021 | Japan: APCW 2021 Sends Strong Signal to COP26
The Asia-Pacific Climate Week 2021 (APCW 2021) Virtual Thematic Sessions wrapped up in July, sending a strong signal that regional momentum for climate action can contribute to success at the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference COP26 in November in Glasgow.
The Asia-Pacific regions emits more than half of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions and is one of the most rapidly developing regions of the world, with a significant proportion of the global population. And it is home to most of the world’s low-lying cities and vulnerable small island states.
The host Government of Japan convened governments at all levels, private sector leaders, academic experts and regional stakeholders. Around 3,700 people from 158 countries registered for the meeting, and more than 2,800+ participants attended a total of 139 virtual sessions. Read more about APCW 2021 here>>
14 May 2021 | Dominican Republic: LACCW 2021 Provides Regional Boost for Success at COP26
The Virtual Thematic Sessions of the Latin America and the Caribbean Climate Week 2021 (LACCW 2021) are wrapping up, providing important momentum for a successful UN Climate Change Conference COP26 in November in Glasgow.
Momentum came from more than 5,000 registered attendees joining in the conversation, including from the host Government of the Dominican Republic, governments at all levels, private sector leaders, academic experts and engaged stakeholders.
The virtual sessions saw 83 events and close to 100 hours of live presentations and discussions, with around 300 speakers, in collaboration with more than 30 global and regional organizations. Read more about LACCW 2021 here>>
15 October 2020 | Dubai, UAE: Regional Collaboration Centre partners meet at the annual Global Forum in virtual format
UN Climate Change Regional Collaboration Centre (RCC) leadership, steering committees of the secretariat and institutions that host the RCCs, and other regional partners met recently at the RCC Global Forum 2020 to exchange views, share progress on ongoing activities and identify emerging priorities and issues related to climate action for continued regional support.
Given the impacts of the global pandemic, the RCC Global Forum 2020 was held virtually and was hosted by the UNFCCC-WGEO Regional Collaboration Centre for Middle East, North Africa and South Asia (RCC Dubai). In an acknowledgement of the important work the RCCs are doing to facilitate climate action regionally, the Forum was very well attended with the participation of 75 individuals from a very diverse community of stakeholders, representing 30 entities that included the RCC host partners, UN agencies, international institutions, regional bodies and government representatives. 20-21 October 2019 | Dubai, UAE: Regional Collaboration Centre partners meet at annual Global Forum
UN Climate Change Regional Collaboration Centre (RCC) partners met recently in Dubai at the latest edition of the annual RCC Global Forum, held on the margins of the World Green Economy Summit, to connect, share, and set strategy to help spur global climate action through the network of RCCs.
As proposed by partners, support to Article 6, adaptation, facilitating the mobilizing of climate-aligned finance, and regional capacity-building on transparency, climate finance and nationally determined contributions under the Paris Agreement, in addition to support for the Clean Development Mechanism, would be major areas of work for all six RCCs in 2020. This year representatives from four RCCs: East African Development Bank (EADB), Kampala; West African development Bank (BOAD), Lomé; Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), Bangkok and the Windward Islands Research and Education Foundation (WINDREF), St George’s, Grenada, attended the UN Summer Academy 2019 which was held in Bonn. The five-day programme focused on issues relevant to the work of the UN and its partners in the context of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development and the Paris Agreement. Read more>>

A Memorandum of understanding was signed between UNFCCC and the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO) to establish a Regional Collaboration Centre in Dubai, focused on the Middle East and North-Africa, to enhance activities in the region. Read more>>
