Background

Per decision 2/CP.17, COP 17 requested the secretariat to prepare compilation and synthesis reports (C&S) on the information reported by Parties in their biennial reports. The 4th biennial reports (BR4s) of Annex I Parties were due by 1 January 2020. The C&S of BR4s, currently under development, is planned to be published by the middle of November 2020.

The organisation of this information event will precede the informal consultations that will be convened by the SBI Chair to facilitate Parties’ discussion on the SBI item on reporting from and review of Parties included in Annex I to the Convention, specifically on the C&S of biennial reports of developed country Parties.

Objective and description

The information event on the C&S of BR4s aims to provide an update on Annex I Parties’ implementation of their commitments under the Convention. The event will focus on the Annex I Parties’ progress towards their 2020 emission reduction targets, and the provision of financial, technological and capacity-building support to developing country Parties up to 2018.
