BACKGROUND
The Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA), at its third session, established an ad hoc work programme on the new collective quantified goal on climate finance (NCQG) from 2022 to 2024 and decided to conduct four technical expert dialogues per year, with one to be held in conjunction with the first regular sessions of the Subsidiary Bodies and one to be held in conjunction with the CMAs, and the two remaining dialogues to be organized in separate regions with a view to facilitating inclusive and balanced geographical participation. The first technical expert dialogue was held in hybrid format from 24 to 25 March 2022. More than 200 participants from around the world met in person in Cape Town and virtually, representing governments, multilateral development banks, non-governmental organizations, academia and the private sector. The co-chairs of the ad hoc work programme on the NCQG have issued a reflections note prepared under their own responsibility which presents a non-exhaustive set of views capturing the substantive and rich discussions held during the first technical expert dialogue and to help structure the discussions at the second technical expert dialogue.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the second technical expert dialogue are to:
- Continue the technical expert dialogue and progress on building enhanced understanding among actors towards setting the new collective quantified goal on climate finance;
- Identify a roadmap, including milestones, and areas for elaboration in 2022 against the backdrop of the landscape of issues identified at the first technical expert dialogue.
