Glasgow–Sharm el-Sheikh work programme on the global goal on adaptation

COP 26 established a comprehensive two-year Glasgow–Sharm el-Sheikh work programme on the global goal on adaptation (2022-2023) to be carried out jointly by the SBSTA and SBI decision 7/CMA.3). An overview of the mandated work can be found in the info box at the right-hand side of this page.

5 May 2022 - Informal virtual event

During this event, the SB Chairs offered Parties and non-Party stakeholders the opportunity to reflect on the submissions, including their expectations for the work programme and organization of the workshops. It allowed those Parties to provide views, who had not been able to provide a submission and also offered an opportunity to hear from non-Party stakeholders to ensure that the work programme is comprehensive and inclusive.

8-9 June 2022 - First workshop on "Enhancing understanding of the global goal on adaptation and reviewing progress towards it"

The workshop took place in Bonn during the SB 56 sessions. Information on the programme and guiding questions is available in the concept note.

30-31 August 2022 - Second workshop on "Enhancing adaptation action and support"

The workshop will be held in a virtual format.

Parties and observers are invited to submit via the submission portal by 5 August views on the workshop, including on general considerations, the topics for discussion under the theme of enhancing adaptation action and support, expected outcomes, examples, case studies and modalities to inform the preparation of the concept note.

The concept note with guiding questions and connection details will be shared well in advance of the workshop.

29-30 September 2022 – Third workshop on "Methodologies, indicators, data and metrics, monitoring and evaluation"

The workshop will be held in a hybrid format with the physical component being held in Bonn.

Parties and observers are invited to submit via the submission portal by 5 September views on the workshop, including on general considerations, the topics for discussion under the theme of methodologies, indicators, data and metrics, monitoring and evaluation, expected outcomes, examples, case studies and modalities to inform the preparation of the concept note.

November (exact dated tbd) – Fourth workshop on "Communicating and reporting on adaptation priorities"

The workshop will be held in person in Sharm el-Sheikh in conjunction with COP27.

Parties and observers are invited to submit via the submission portal by 7 October views on the workshop, including on general considerations, the topics for discussion under the theme of Communicating and reporting on adaptation priorities, expected outcomes, examples, case studies and modalities to inform the preparation of the concept note.
