Transparency is a key element of effective national and international climate action. Transparency covers reporting on efforts to reduce greenhouse gases as well as building resilience to the inevitable impacts of climate change and the means of implementation such as finance, technology transfer and capacity-building.

Qualified technical review experts nominated by Parties are key to operate the transparency framework under the Convention. These experts participate in reviews within the UNFCCC process including: annual greenhouse gas inventory reviews, biennial report reviews, reviews on national communications, biennial update report reviews for developing countries and REDD+ technical reviews.

The task of reviewer is voluntary. However, their job is extremely important, and their enthusiasm for the task is impressive. Here are reflections from some of our expert reviewers that participate in the UNFCCC’s transparency work.
