Programa de cambio climático para junio

En consonancia con su respuesta a la COVID-19, la secretaría de la Convención Marco no va a convocar ninguna reunión que requiera la presencia física. Sin embargo, en 2020 la labor para avanzar en cambio climático sigue siendo fundamental y, como ya señaló la Secretaria Ejecutiva, de ningún modo se ha suspendido. Si bien los períodos de sesiones de los órganos subsidiarios (SB 52) se han aplazado hasta el 4-12 de octubre de 2020, se han establecido disposiciones para continuar la labor mediante reuniones virtuales.

Del 1 al 10 de junio de 2020 se llevará a cabo una serie de actividades en línea bajo la orientación de los presidentes del OSACT y del OSE y con el apoyo de la secretaría de la Convención Marco.

Esta serie de eventos en línea ofrece a las Partes y a otros interesados la oportunidad de seguir intercambiando opiniones e información, con el fin de mantener el impulso del proceso de la Convención Marco, y mostrar la forma en que progresan las medidas relativas al clima en las circunstancias especiales a las que se enfrenta actualmente el mundo.

Ello incluirá el avance de la labor técnica en el marco de los órganos constituidos. Además, se establecerá una plataforma para el intercambio de información y la participación en otros trabajos que se realicen en el marco de la Convención Marco, como los relativos a la adaptación, la mitigación, la ciencia, las finanzas, la tecnología, el fomento de la capacidad, la transparencia, el género, las medidas de potenciación del clima y la preparación y presentación de contribuciones determinadas a nivel nacional. No se prevén negociaciones oficiales ni la adopción de decisiones para estos eventos. Por otro lado, los períodos de sesiones del Consejo de Administración en se llevarán a cabo en octubre de este año.

A continuación, presentamos una tabla en la que se enumeran los actos que se organizarán durante el mes de junio, con su formato y fechas provisionales. A su debido tiempo se proporcionarán más detalles sobre cada evento. La tabla se irá actualizando en la versión de esta página en inglés.

Como pidió la Mesa de la Conferencia de las Partes en su reunión del 1 de abril de este año, los presidentes, con la asistencia de la secretaría, pronto darán a conocer un calendario de las actividades de la Convención Marco de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Cambio Climático previstas para el SB 52 y para 2020. La mayoría de los actos que se habían previsto para los períodos de sesiones o el período entre períodos de sesiones tendrán lugar virtualmente.

Enhancing support to the LDCs: Insights from a recent stocktaking meeting of the work of the LEG  Discussion during the event will center on the outcomes of a meeting held in February to take stock of the work of the LEG as part of the review of the LEG mandate as per decision 19/CP.21, paras 13 and 14. Training webinar on getting familiar with the CRF Reporter This is the last of a series of training webinars conducted by the secretariat. The objective is to present basic functionalities of the CRF Reporter to support developing country Parties in familiarizing themselves with the Reporter. The CRF Reporter is the tool used by developed country Parties in reporting their national GHG inventories, following the 2006 IPCC Guidelines. By invitation only 14:00 – 15:00
Effective Delivery of Needs-based Climate Finance The objective of this event to explore ways to enhance developing countries’ access to international climate funds and strengthen the alignment and delivery of support to the identified needs and priorities of developing countries. Race to Zero Launch (NPS reactivation of the Climate Ambition Alliance) The COP Presidency, the upcoming Presidency and the UNFCCC secretariat will launch of the ‘Race to Zero’ campaign. A global campaign in the lead-up to COP26, the Race to Zero is mobilizing cities, regions, businesses and investors all committed to the same overarching goal: achieving net zero emissions by 2050 at the very latest.
