Technical Expert Meetings on Adaptation (TEM-A) Virtual workshop: Education and training to enhance climate adaptation action across sectors

Time:

12:00 - 13:30

Venue:

Virtual

Workshop description:

The extent to which climate change impacts our society depends on the exposure and vulnerability, as well as types of hazards we will face. Nevertheless, climate change adaptation and resilience are needed to prevent, anticipate,  cope, recover and adapt from the multiple impacts of climate change at all levels – at the local, national and global level. Education and training, as part of capacity building on disaster and climate risk management for adaptation and resilience across and within sectors,  are essential components for countries to advance transformational efforts on climate change.

Learning from the global COVID-19 crisis, the event will showcase good practices and innovative climate solutions of formal and informal education that can be up-scaled and out-scaled to enhance and promote climate adaptation/resilience action across sectors. Furthermore, the event will also discuss incentives on how the knowledge that was gained through education and training can be leveraged into business and innovative solutions to scale up adaptation action especially for most vulnerable countries and communities

This event is a technical expert meeting on adaptation (TEM-A). The objectives of this event are:

(a) Facilitating the sharing of good practices, experiences and lessons learned from education and training initiatives on climate change adaptation and resilience across and within sectors;

(b) Identifying opportunities to strengthen enabling environments for transforming knowledge into innovation and new businesses that are safe, clean, green, equitable, resilient and sustainable to address climate change.

About the TEP-A:

The technical examination process on adaptation (TEP-A) was established at COP 21 as part of the enhanced action prior to 2020 in the decision adopting the Paris Agreement.  And the technical expert meetings on adaptation (TEM-A) are the core of this process. The TEP-A seeks to identify concrete opportunities for strengthening resilience, reducing vulnerabilities, and increasing the understanding and implementation of adaptation actions. The process is organized by the SBSTA and SBI and conducted by the Adaptation Committee. Volunteer organizations are invited to lead the organization of relevant technical expert meetings.

Each year topics of particular relevance to Parties and non-Party stakeholders are addressed.

The topic for the TEP-A in 2020 is "Education and training, public participation and youth to enhance adaptation action."

The TEP-A events in 2020 will take place over several months, with events and related activities beginning in June and concluding in October with a wrap-up event. It will include creative ideas for policy briefs and case studies, video messages, virtual talks and workshops, art competitions and more.
