30 April 2021
Mr. Estebancio Castro-Diaz was a fellow member of the Facilitative Working Group (FWG) of the Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples Platform (LCIPP). We worked closely together to develop and initiate the implementation of the LCIPP initial two-year workplan, along with the rest of the FWG members.
I will remember him for his unwavering leadership in amplifying the voices of indigenous peoples, his ability to bring together people with diverse backgrounds, and his commitment to healing and safeguarding the health of Mother Nature.
Mr. Estebancio Castro-Diaz contributed to shaping the work of the LCIPP. He tirelessly worked to enhance the engagement of indigenous peoples and local communities in the international climate policy process.
My deepest condolences go out to his family, the Kuna peoples, the LCIPP community, and the indigenous peoples of the world.
Rest in peace, brother Estebancio.
