The Adaptation Committee

The Adaptation Committee (AC) is the overall advisory body to the COP on adaptation to the adverse effects of climate change. It promotes the implementation of enhanced action on adaptation in a coherent manner under the Convention and, in collaboration with the LEG and other entities, identifies the role of the UNFCCC in facilitating the delivery of adaptation support to all developing countries, including for the NAP process. Through its activities it assists in identifying gaps and needs with regard to adaptation in developing countries and facilitates outreach, capacity-building and the sharing of expert knowledge on various topics relating to adaptation and the NAP process. The modalities of its work include publications, workshops and other types of events as well as engagement with providers and recipients of support. It has established a NAP task force consisting of members of the AC and nominees from the Least Developed Countries Expert Group, the Standing Committee on Finance, the Technology Executive Committee, the Adaptation Fund, the Global Environment Facility and the Green Climate Fund. One of the main functions of the task force is to follow up on the operationalization of modalities identified for the support of non-LDCs’ NAPs, under the guidance of the Co-Chairs of the AC.

The meetings of the AC can be followed via live webcast and its publications as well as information on its workshops and expert events can be accessed at Adaptation Committee | UNFCCC. The AC can be contacted via ac@unfccc.int.
