The Executive Committee of the Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage associated with Climate Change Impacts (Executive Committee) invites Parties and relevant organizations to provide information on the sources of financial support they are providing for planning and implementation of integrated approaches to avert, minimize and address displacement related to the adverse impacts of climate change. The secretariat of the UNFCCC will take the information received through the submissions into account, as appropriate, when preparing the technical paper referred to in decision 4/CP.22, paragraph 2 (f), which will serve as an input to the review of the Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage in 2019. This call for submissions is undertaken in the context of the five-year rolling workplan of the Executive Committee, activity 1(a) of strategic workstream (e) ’Enhanced cooperation and facilitation in relation to action and support, including finance, technology and capacity-building, to address loss and damage associated with the adverse effects of climate change’. Background |
|
COP 19 established the Warsaw International Mechanism to address loss and damage associated with the adverse effects of climate change through its three main functions: enhancing knowledge and understanding of comprehensive risk management approaches; strengthening dialogue, coordination, coherence and synergies among relevant stakeholders; and enhancing action and support, including finance, technology and capacity-building. At the forty-eighth session of the subsidiary bodies (May 2018), the secretariat also organized, under the guidance of the Executive Committee and the Chair of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation, the Suva expert dialogue with a view to informing the preparation of this technical paper. The report of the Suva expert dialogue and other outcome documents are available online. |
