Capacity-building database portal overview

Overview of the Capacity-building Portal

The Capacity-building portal was established to compile and display an overview of submissions from Party and non-Party stakeholders, listing climate change-related capacity-building activities in developing countries.

The capacity-building portal uses an interactive world map to present an overview of all capacity-building priority areas (decision 2/CP.7) and activities submitted by Party and non-Party stakeholders.

Developing country Parties are indicated by different grey shades on the map: the darker the grey shade, the more project activities are available there. Owing to the scale of the map, small areas are presented as dots and are not adequately displayed using the colour scheme or greyscale.

The portal content can be filtered by region, by country, by year range (e.g. 1975–2019), and by priority area, displaying selected activities stored in the database in the activity list on the right of the screen.

Moving the mouse to hover over a country will present information on the projects related to that specific country. No data for this country is displayed when relevant information on capacity-building activities has not yet been submitted to the system. The pie chart at the bottom of the screen presents a graphical view of the activities of the selected country.

Activity List
The Activity List widget shows a list of titles of activities based on the filtering criteria. It is displayed on the screen only when a country or filtering parameters is/are selected. The title of the window shows the selected location and may include national and regional activities. Next to the group name, the amount of activities for the group is shown. The numbers at the bottom of the window represent the total count of activities based on the selected criteria. The first is the number of activities in the selected year range and the second the count of activities for all years. Additionally, information can be exported by clicking on the CSV export button at the bottom of the Activity List window, circled in blue in the above picture.

Find Activities
The Find Activities widget assists in locating specific information, allowing activities to be filtered by priority area, location and specific time period. Another way to find activities is through hovering over a country with activities and clicking on that country, after which a list of activities will open and allow you to scroll accordingly.

My Activities
The My Activities widget allows selected activities from the Activity List widget to be saved temporarily. Clicking on the "+" symbol in the Activity List will add the activity to My Activities and clicking on the "I" symbol will open a new window with further details related to the selected activity.

Pie chart(s)
The pie chart(s) widget provides a graphical representation of the distribution of activities by region and priority areas. Clicking on a country adjusts the information displayed by the pie chart(s).

Submit Information
Pursuant to decision 16/CP.22, paragraph 9, United Nations agencies, multilateral organizations and relevant admitted observer organizations engaged in providing capacity-building support to developing countries are invited to submit information to be uploaded onto the capacity-building portal. Non-Party stakeholders need to request a login by e-mailing CapacityBuildingPortal@unfccc.int or, if a login is already obtained, the menu of the capacity-building portal can be accessed and clicking on Submit Information or My account will allow submission accordingly.
