Sixth compilation and synthesis of initial national communications from Parties not included in Annex I to the Convention. Note by the secretariat. Executive summary.

The Conference of the Parties (COP), at its ninth session, requested the secretariat to prepare a compilation and synthesis of information contained in all initial national communications submitted by Parties not included in Annex I to the Convention (non-Annex I Parties) up to 1 April 2005, for its consideration at its eleventh session. This document and its addenda (FCCC/SBI/2005/18/Add.1–6) present information contained in 122 initial national communications from non-Annex I Parties. The addenda describe and discuss the following major issues, taking into account national circumstances, as well as needs and constraints, as they relate to the issues covered: sustainable development and the integration of climate change concerns into medium- and long-term planning; inventories of anthropogenic emissions by sources and removals by sinks of greenhouse gases; measures contributing to addressing climate change; research and systematic observation; climate change impacts, adaptation measures and response strategies; and education, training and public awareness. At the twenty-third session of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation, Parties may wish to provide further guidance to the secretariat on the compilation and synthesis of information from national communications of non-Annex I Parties
