Article 6, paragraph 4, of the Paris Agreement establishes a mechanism to contribute to the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions and support sustainable development (hereinafter referred to as the mechanism). By decision 1/CP.21, paragraph 38, the Conference of the Parties requested the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) to develop and recommend rules, modalities and procedures for the mechanism for adoption by the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA) at its first session.
