Structure of the training programme

The training programme covers three clusters of training materials: (A) provisions on reporting information in the BURs and conducting technical analysis of BURs under the international consultation and analysis (ICA) process; (B) background materials covering methods and science on key themes addressed in BURs, and (C) provisions relevant to the technical analysis of a technical annex containing information on results-based actions relating to REDD-plus activities.

Some of the experts in the roster are highly experienced having participated in a number of activities relating to reporting by Parties under the Convention while others (less experienced) have limited experience and expertise. Accordingly, the experts registered in the roster are classified into two categories, following the definition contained in table 1: (a) experienced experts; and (b) less experienced experts.

Step 1: select the thematic area(s) you want to be certified in (columns in the figure below)

• Mitigation ➙ Module 2.1
• GHG inventory ➙ Module 2.2
• Needs and support ➙ Module 2.3
• REDD-plus ➙ Module 3

Experts should select those thematic areas where they already have experience. Experts can select one or more thematic areas. Experts can also add additional thematic areas in later rounds of training.

Step 2: find out what your experience level is (rows in the figure below).

Experienced expert	An experience of participating, at least, once in the review of national communications, GHG inventories or biennial reports from Annex I Parties OR successfully completed similar training programme, offered by the secretariat, relating to review of any of the themes covered in national communications, GHG inventories or biennial reports from Annex I Parties
Less experienced expert	No experience of participating in the review of national communications, GHG inventories or biennial reports from Annex I Parties OR limited or no prior knowledge on the any of the themes covered in biennial update reports from non-Annex I Parties.
LULUCF expert	Experience with LUCF/ LULUCF Annex I Party reviews or novice experts who have completed module 2.2d LUCF/ LULUCF

Step 3: determine which modules / sub-modules you need to complete (see figure below).

Experienced experts will only need to successfully complete cluster A of the training, and cluster C if they wish to participate in the analysis of the REDD plus annex to BURs. Less experienced experts will additionally need to undergo training in cluster B.

Please note that there is a precondition for REDD-plus (Module 3) - the trainee should have prior methodological knowledge on LUCF/LULUCF sector (additional details are provided with the registration) or experts will need to also successfully complete module 2.2d LUCF/LULUCF.
