Mandate
Through decision 1/CP.18,
paragraph 35, the COP requested the SBSTA and SBI to jointly initiate a process on the need to
improve the coordination of support for the implementation of reducing emissions from deforestation;
reducing emissions from forest degradation, conservation of forest carbon stocks, sustainable
management of forests, and enhancement of forest carbon stocks (REDD-plus activities), and to provide
adequate and predictable support, and to consider existing institutional arrangements or potential
governance alternatives including a body, a board or a committee. The COP invited Parties and
admitted observer organizations to submit views on these matters.
The COP also requested the secretariat to organize, subject to the availability of supplementary
resources, an in-session workshop at SBSTA/SBI 38, taking into account the submissions by Parties and
admitted observer organizations referred to above.
The workshop will be held in-session at the venue of the Bonn Climate Change Conference, access is
open to all registered participants of this Conference. The working language of the workshop
will be English.
