Education Day, 4 December 2015

On 4 December 2015, a thematic day on climate change education (CCE) took place at COP 21/ CMP11.
Education is crucial to promote changes in lifestyles, attitudes and behavior needed to foster sustainable
development and to address climate change. The objective of the day was to showcase good practices and
lessons learned on climate change education. Events on CCE were held in the “blue
zone” and the future generations space. Furthermore, Ministers of Education from different
countries participated in the Ministerial Event on Climate Change Education and Sustainable Development
organized by the French Government.

Ministerial Event on Climate Change Education and Sustainable
Development
The Ministerial event started with a panel discussion by the French Ministers of
Education and Environment, followed by a presentation of good practices to integrate climate action
and environment issues in the educational systems. Delegates shared lessons learned. A Ministerial
Declaration on climate change education concluded the event. The Ministerial event took
place from 9:00 to 13:00 in the future generations
space.

UN Side Event on Formal Climate Change Education
The main objective of the UN side event was to motivate exchange of knowledge among
Governments, IGOs, civil society, academia and youth. Furthermore, the event aimed to
highlight partnerships and opportunities for scaling up climate change education and to identify
innovative ways of enhancing climate action with a focus on formal education. This side
event took place from 13:15 to 14:45 in the "blue zone". More

UN Alliance Side Event on Non-Formal Climate Change Education
There is an urgent need to scale up action and investment in climate change education, training and
awareness-raising. The UN Alliance side event showcased innovative ways to promote
non-formal education with a special focus on alternative approaches for climate change
learning, such as music, social media and video games. The event took place from 18:30 to
20:00 in the "blue zone". More
