Workshop Goals:

Assessing the key findings and recommendations of the IPCC in the context of data availability to inform implementation of adaptation planning and strategies.
Defining of the core sets of data, data characteristics, and information technologies needed to maintain the minimum acceptable level of stewardship in the management of resources and infrastructure.
Characterizing the climate data needs of the key sectors including the financial services and development sectors.
Assessing the adequacy of national and regional networks and records for detection of climate trends to inform global, regional and national assessments of climate change and for developing regional and national climate risk profiles.
Identifying paths for addressing institutional and local capacities (including NHMS) needed to observe, monitor, rescue, archive and process and sustain climate data and networks.

The SBSTA at its forty-first session (FCCC/SBSTA/2014/L.19, para 6) noted that the workshop would identify ways to enhance systematic observation and related capacity, especially in developing countries to support preparedness and adaptation in a changing climate. The GCOS secretariat will provide a report on the workshop before the forty-third session of the SBSTA.
