RCC Bangkok is operated in partnership with the Institute for Global Environmental
Strategies (IGES) supports all countries in the region in identifying and designing CDM
projects and offering opportunities to reduce transaction costs. It will work in collaboration
with the other Regional Collaboration Centres (RCCs) in Africa, Latin America and the
Caribbean.

Pakistan Considers Market Mechanisms
Pakistan's first national Consultation on Carbon Pricing was held in Islamabad on the
21st of December 2017. The Pakistan Ministry of Climate Change, in collaboration with RCC Bangkok and
the CI-ACA initiative brought together a wide-ranging group of stakeholders - from private sector and
industry representatives, to aviation and CDM project developers - to gather their opinions on a
potential carbon pricing approach for their country tailored to the national context and the
challenges and opportunities they foresee in planning for and implementing such an instrument.

Seruiratu, High-Level Climate Champion
Public private collaboration is imperative to successfully address climate change. The role of
non-Party stakeholders in bridging the emission gap is increasingly being recognized as a key
component of the response to the climate challenge.
RCC Bangkok spoke with Honorable Inia Seruiratu, Fiji's Minister for Agriculture, Rural &
Maritime Development, and National Disaster Management, and the High-Level Climate Champion, about
his vision for the implementation of the Marrakech Partnership, the importance of regional
collaboration to accelerate climate action, and the outcomes of the first Asia Pacific Climate Week.

Asia -Pacific Climate Week Calls for Scaling-Up Climate Action
Public-sector officials from more than 30 countries in Asia-Pacific joined private sector leaders in
Bangkok, Thailand from the 13th to the 15th of December, 2017, to identify ways to scale up climate
action and find innovative financing solutions for the transition to low-carbon, climate-resilient
economies.
Asia-Pacific Climate Week culminated in a Regional Action Agenda which aims to strengthen regional
cooperation among state and non-state stakeholders to further support ambition prior to 2020.

Gender Mainstreaming Crucial to Success of Adaptation Projects
UN Climate Change supported the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in a training on mainstreaming
gender considerations in climate change adaptation projects, held in Bangkok, Thailand from 4th to
8th December, 2017.
UN Climate Change shared information on the Lima work programme on gender and gender action plan, and
on strengthening gender considerations in the process of formulating and implementing National
Adaptation Plans (NAPs).

RCC Bangkok co-hosts regional workshop on Understanding Carbon Pricing for ASEAN
countries
Global experts on carbon pricing instruments shared information and exchanged views with
representatives from ASEAN countries to give a better understanding of market based instruments to
support the efforts of these countries to meet their emission reduction targets in a cost-effective
manner. The countries agreed to explore the possibility of developing a harmonized regional approach
to measuring, reporting and verifying greenhouse gas emissions in Singapore, 16-17 October.

Preparing Countries for the Paris Agreement Commitment Period in Agriculture and Land
Use
|
Country representatives from Asia took part in a workshop, which was supported by RCC Bangkok
and took place in Bangkok, Thailand from the 10th to 12th of October 2017, to understand how
to strengthen the role of scientific foresight and Climate-Smart Agriculture in addressing
their NDC priorities with regard to the upcoming commitment period of the Paris Agreement in
2020. RCC Bangkok shared information on the UN Climate Change organized Facilitative Dialogue
in 2018, which will set the stage for the global next steps.

Linking the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals
To highlight the undeniable synergies between combating climate change and the sustainable
development agenda RCC Bangkok hosted a side-event entitled A Common Path: How does the Paris
Agreement promote the goal of a resource-efficient and pollution-free Asia-Pacific? at the 1st
Asia-Pacific Ministerial Summit on the Environment in Bangkok from the 5th to 8th of September
2017. The expert panel agreed that well-designed climate action can greatly contribute to the
achievement of the SDGs, particularly related to pollution prevention and enhancing resource
efficiency.

Climate officials from five countries learned the finer points of the Clean Development
Mechanism, the Paris Climate Change Agreement and evolving climate action worldwide in a
training organized by the Regional Collaboration Centre (RCC) Bangkok and Pakistan’s
Ministry of Climate Change (MoCC) on 21-22 August in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad.Clean

now!
|
Developing Countries Urgently Need Finance to Green Power Sectors
Countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean urgently need
financial support to green their power sectors and thereby implement their national climate
action plans under the Paris Climate Change Agreement. This is a key finding of a report on the
nationally determined contributions survey conducted by the Nairobi Framework Partnership in
2016.
