Use of the Acrobat pdf Reader

1. The national communications within these pages can only be viewed using the Acrobat pdf reader. This differs from the html normally used within web pages as it supports complicated graphs, figures and tables. Documents can also be printed so that the pages appear almost exactly like the original. If your computer does not have the Acrobat pdf reader, download it for free here, then follow Acrobat's installation instructions.

2. When the Reader opens, the hand tool finger will be automatically selected. This allows you to scroll down the pages. Select an alternative tool by clicking on it.

3. To zoom in or out to magnify details or decrease them in size, select the magnifying glass tool. The page can be returned to its original size by clicking on the page icons in the upper menu toobar.

4. To view the index for a document, click on the icon that is second to the left hand margin. bar
It looks like a page with a left-hand index (horizontal lines). The index will automatically appear. The lines are known as bookmarks; clicking on the chapter title within the index will open the correct page. There are also sub-titles within the chapters. The index for these can be viewed by clicking on the horizontal arrow icon to the left of the chapter heading, which will become a vertical arrow icon, and the sub-headings will then be displayed. The sub-headings can be hidden clicking on the vertical arrow, so it will change to a horizontal arrow.

5. To search the document for a particular word or phrase, click on the binoculars icon. A dialogue box appears, asking "Find What'. Type the word or phrase you wish to find. You can choose to match the phrase only, the case or the word backwards. If Acrobat Reader finds the correct word within the document, it is highlighted in blue.
